    Friday Filler

Due to the lack of interesting news today I thought I'd throw up a few pics of Brit pop sensation, and hottie, Rachel Stevens.

Check out her site and let us know what you think. While a bit edgier than her US counterparts, her music didn't have much of an impact on me but hey... with looks like that who cares.

    My Hero
    Friday, December 01 2006 @ 12:42 AM PST
    Contributed by: Stewie

Sassy Hayden Panettiere, aka "The Cheerleader" on NBC's hit series Heroes can rescue me any day.

I was just going to post this adorable pic with a couple of quick quips but... In a holy crap update, while doing a tad of research on her... it turns out she's not just an actress but she's also a wannabe pop/rock superstar. Hayden apparently has a deal with Hollywood Records and her debut album is due out in Spring 2007.

Unfortunately, I'm not impressed at all from what I heard on her MySpace page. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Hopefully Hollywood won't mold her into another typical bubblegum pop singer, and her upcoming album will demonstrate that she has some trace of talent. Maybe even write her own lyrics. Come on Hayden... you're too cute to give in to the corporate monsters... show us you have some guts, and not just on the show.

    Fiddy - Oprah's an "Oreo"
    Thursday, November 30 2006 @ 09:17 PM PST
    Contributed by: Stewie

In the January issue of Elle magazine 50 Cent calls Oprah Winfrey an "oreo" - black on the outside, white on the inside - because she:

"started out with black women's views but has been catering to middle-aged white American women for so long that she's become one herself. I think the idea of being publicly noted that she's a billionaire makes [black women] interested in seeing her views. But it's even more exciting to the demographic of white American women she's been aiming at to see that she has the exact same views that they have."

My question is: While being a hard core gangsta rapper... dodging bullets and all, when the hell is Fiddy watching Oprah? And, why? Can't you just picture it: 50, Lloyd Banks, and Yayo, chillin' at the studio... smokin' trees, spittin' lyrics, battling, and... watching Oprah?

What Happened to Good Old Sci-fi?
    Wednesday, November 29 2006 @ 07:55 PM PST
    Contributed by: Deckard

Jason Silverman over at Wired poses a great question:

"Blade Runner. 2001 - A Space Odyssey. Star Wars Those were the days. Whatever happened to intellectually challenging science-fiction flicks?"

It's so true, Hollywood has lost its nerve when it comes to groundbreaking new sci-fi cinema and has, instead, opted for cookie-cutter superheros and video game adaptations. As an example, Silverman gives us a profile of the latest sci-fi attempt that went straight down the tubes... The Fountain. He starts out the article by saying:

"It took six years for Darren Aronofsky to get his mystic science-fiction filmThe Fountain to the big screen, and just five days for it to tank at the box office.

Made for an estimated $35 million, The Fountain earned a paltry $5 million over the long Thanksgiving weekend. Those numbers mark a huge disappointment for Warner Bros. and Aronofsky, and another grievous wound for serious-minded sci-fi."

For more of Jason's thoughts on this Hollywood struggle read the full article, Hollywood Eats Sci-Fi's Brains, at Wired.

    DeVito Da-Runk on "The View"
    Wednesday, November 29 2006 @ 04:20 PM PST
    Contributed by: ShadowHawk

This morning's episode of "The View" was livened up a bit by Danny DeVito being drunk off his ass. During the course of his appearance he manages to; inform the audience that he was out all night dinking with George Clooney (which had obviously not yet stopped), give Bush a good slamming, and enlighten us to the fact that he and his wife tore up the Lincoln Bedroom at The White House. Now that's what I call good TV!
